Saturday, October 12th, 2013  7:30 pm

Ballet Quad Cities’ historic 2013-2014 season officially opens October 11 and 12 as Dracula is performed at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Moline, with returning guest artist Domingo Rubio dancing the lead role of Dracula. The original choreography and music collage is by the company’s resident choreographer Deanna Carter; the ballet loosely follows the Bram Stoker’s piece of literature “Dracula”.

Domingo Rubio, who partnered Neve Campbell in Robert Altman’s film The Company, is a modern-day renaissance man who is a dancer, choreographer, composer, artist, teacher and pianist. With more than 20 years of continuous dance performance in forums all over the world, Rubio performs in repertoire roles and neoclassical works that are choreographed for him. His dancing is distinguished by his emotional power and partnering skills, which have earned outstanding prizes and fine critiques as a performer and choreographer. He has danced as a principal with The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Quad City audiences will remember him for his role of Dr. Coppelius in Coppelia and Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker.

Deanna Carter has worked extensively as choreographer, director, teacher and ballet mistress (Company Teacher) in over 16 countries. She has taken on these roles in companies such as Stars of La Scala in Italy, the Royal Danish Ballet, the Leipzig Ballet, the Dessau Ballet, the Scottish Ballet and many more. She has also choreographed for various operas and musicals across Europe. In Mexico City, Carter had her own dance company and choreographed for several of Mexico's professional dance companies. Carter has been an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Iowa since 2004.
